Current restitution status
No requests
: 2020: In the letter dated 24 January 2019, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science asked the Restitutions Committee for advice on the request for restitution of the painting Winter Forest by Johann Bernard Klombeck and Eugène Joseph Verboeckhoven. The investigation that followed showed that the painting was not alienated in the period 1933-1945; there is no indication that this painting has a consted history. 2019: Until recent it was presumed this painting was part of the Rijksmuseum collection. New evidence has shown, however, this painting belongs to the Cultural Heritage Agency (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed), the successor of the Government department for distributing Art (Dienst 's Rijks Verspreide Kunstvoorwerpen).
Research findings
Because the art dealer M. Wolff possibly owned this painting and was in difficulty during the war, its provenance is uncertain. This art gallery had a jewish owner.
