Who owned this painting was before it was given to the garage owner as surety and how the painting changed hands is not known.
The museum inventory card states that a garage owner sold the painting to the museum through the mediation of a Kunsthistorisch Instituut Amsterdam secretary. He stated that he had received the painting from a customer a few years before as surety.
