Who owned this painting before it passed to Nederlands Beheersinstituut is not known.
The painting may have been part of property confiscated from Germans after the war. In 1947, the Winterswijk representatives at Nederlands Beheersinstituut's Bureau Roerende Goederen van Vijanden en Landverraders passed various paintings on to Stichting Nederlands Kunstbezit. It is unclear whether this painting was part of that transaction. This painting has an identical frame to that of Winter Landscape (inv. no. 6823-47) A pencil text on the reverse of the frame may state: 'Heffus Wilde' [?].
