Research findings

When and from whom Jagenau art gallery acquired this painting is no longer known.

An SNK label appears on the reverse of this painting. It states the name of an earlier owner: 'Jaguenau' [sic] in pen. This apparently indicates Kunsthandel L.A.M. Jagenau, formerly of Noordeinde in The Hague. Jagenau was accused of collaborating (allegedly a rexist – Belgian fascist – and an NSB member). He served as intermediary for Dienststelle Mühlmann and sold to German buyers. His collection was auctioned on 25 and 26 September 1947 at Kasteel Olde in Laren (Gld.), supervised by Nijstad, a broker. This painting was not part of that sale. No connection between this painting and Jagenau has been found in SNK's archive.
