De herkomst tussen 1918 en 1943 is onbekend. Het werk is in ieder geval t/m 1918 in de collectie L.X. Lannoy (cat. Teekeningen op scheepvaartgebied van meest Nederlandsche meesters uit de 17de - 19de eeuw, bij G.Theod. Bom & Zoon, Amsterdam, 18 september - 9 oktober 1918). G.Theod. Bom & Zoon trad tot in de jaren zestig van de twintigste eeuw op als antiquariaatsveiling. Het volgende dat we weten is dat het werk in 1943-10-19 bij Frederik Muller was en op 1943-10-23 bij Goudst.Miedl. [nl]
