De herkomst is niet sluitend. Op 23 september 1940 verkocht kunsthandelaar L. Grüber uit Den Haag het schilderij verkocht aan Kunsthandel Goudstikker/Miedl te Amsterdam. Het is niet bekend van wie, wanneer en onder welke omstandigheden Grüber dit schilderij heeft verworven. Miedl verkocht het werk in 1941 door aan G. Schickendanz, te Fürth. [nl]
