Research findings
There is no, or insufficient provenance information known about this object from the period 1933-1945. After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.
The provenance is inconclusive: it is unknown when, from whom and under what circumstances art dealer De Boer in Amsterdam acquired the painting. What is certain is that it was in De Boer's possession between 1937 and 1940, then at Galerie Nierendorf in New York, and then again at De Boer. The exact duration and circumstances of this period at Galerie Nierendorf are unknown. De Boer eventually sold the painting to Hermann Göring in 1940.
