After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.
The origin of the painting remains unknown. It is unclear when, how, or under what circumstances art dealer Hans Steinbüchel from Dusseldorf acquired the painting. What is certain, however, is that J. Spinrath from Dusseldorf purchased the painting from Steinbüchel in 1943 or 1944.
