After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. The provenance of the painting is unclear; it is unknown when, how and under what circumstances J.B.L. d’Anvers acquired the painting. J.B.L. D’Anvers subsequently sold the painting through the Galerie Le Roy auction house in Brussels in 1936. The Hoogendijk art dealership in Amsterdam purchased the painting there. Hoogendijk later sold the painting to Galerie Paffrath in Düsseldorf in February 1942.
