Research findings
There is no, or insufficient provenance information known about this object from the period 1933-1945. After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.
The provenance research is inconclusive. It is not known how, when or under what circumstances the private collector D. van Veen from Rotterdam/Amsterdam acquired this painting. However, it is certain that Kunsthandel P. de Boer from Amsterdam had the painting on consignment from Van Veen and sold it to Kunsthaus Malmedé in Cologne in April 1942. No evidence has been found to suggest that this painting was lost involuntarily.
