There is no, or insufficient provenance information known about this object from the period 1933-1945. After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.
The provenance details are not entirely conclusive. In 1938, London art dealer A.F. Reyre consigned this painting to Kunsthandel Hoogendijk in Amsterdam. It is not known from whom, where, or when Reyre acquired the work. In 1904, it was auctioned in England. It is likely that it remained in England during the intervening period. There are no indications that the painting was in Germany or Austria between 1933 and 1938. On 18 December 1940, Kunsthandel Hoogendijk sold the painting to Dr Hupp on behalf of the Düsseldorf Museum.
