There is no, or insufficient provenance information known about this object from the period 1933-1945. After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.
The provenance details are not entirely conclusive. In August 1940, private collector G.A. van Haeften sold the painting to Kunsthandel Hoogendijk in Amsterdam. It is not known from whom, where, or when he acquired the painting. It was already noted in 1936 at an exhibition as a loan from Van Haeften. There are no indications that the painting was in Germany or Austria between 1933 and 1938. In October 1940, Hoogendijk sold the painting to Posse on behalf of the Führermuseum.
