On 23 December 1941, Der Kinderen-Besier sold the work to Kunsthandel Hoogendijk, Amsterdam. On 10 December 1942, Hoogendijk sold the painting to Dr K. Martin, director of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe.
