: Bij het glasgow museum: Frank Partridge was the son of Robert and Eliza Partridge, who owned a bootmaking business in Hertfordshire. He established the firm in 1900 at 4 King Street, St James’s, with WH Lever, later Lord Leverhulme, as an early client and patron. By 1910 Partridge had opened a gallery at 741 Fifth Avenue, New York. He was fortunate to survive the sinking of the 'Lusitania' on 7 May 1915. William Burrell was a client between 1917 and 1955, buying a wide range of objects. In addition to furniture, Partridge supplied Burrell with tapestries, carpets, embroideries, paintings, glass, stained glass, arms and armour and Chinese ceramics and bronzes. After the King Street gallery was bombed in 1944, the company relocated to 144–146 New Bond Street. They specialized in English and French furniture from 1680–1820 and supplied goods to major museums, including the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Rijksmuseum. They had their own carving and gilding workshops and in-house upholstery department. The family firm, known later as 'Partridge Fine Arts', was sold to a consortium in 2005. [nl]

Research findings

The provenance research into the period 1933-1945 has not revealed any indications suggesting possible involuntary loss of ownership.

[nl]
