On a wooden trestle table placed against a brown wall, the following arrangement can be seen from left to right: at the front a gurnard, an egg -bearing (?) North Sea crab, a cut of red salmon, a black-handled knife, a cod, its flanks slit in several places and its entrails hanging out, a few plaice, another North Sea crab and two turbot with the right-hand side of their jaws roped to the tips of their tails; behind them a basket containing a cut of red salmon and two haddock (?) slit lengthwise and a plaice; also a wooden cask covered by a blue cloth and supporting another basket of fish. Up at the right the head of a red salmon is hanging from a beam. Under the table a basket of fish and a set of scales with round brass bowls can be seen. At the left a window, through which a waterside village, a half-built tower and a spire can be seen [nl]
