There is no, or insufficient provenance information known about this object from the period 1933-1945. After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. The provenance of this painting is unclear. It is not known when, how, or under what circumstances art dealer De Haan, Amsterdam acquired this painting. Miedl's inventory book states that De Haan sold the work to Miedl in 1940, before 27 July 1940. It is unclear whether this painting was owned by De Haan, or whether he was an intermediary or buyer for Miedl. Miedl sold this painting to Göring via Gritzbach on 16 September 1940. This transaction was a voluntary sale. The painting then came into the possession of the Goudstikker/Miedl art dealership in 1944 through an exchange with H. Göring. The painting was sold to Hitler in 1944 through Göpel. This transaction was a voluntary sale. The Restitutions Committee investigated the transaction between art dealer De Haan and art dealer Goudstikker/Miedl and concluded that there was no involuntary loss of possession (RC 1.106; 4.142).
