Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.

The provenance is inconclusive. It is not known how, when or under what circumstances Paul Zwaal, a private individual from Amsterdam, acquired this painting. Paul Zwaal submitted the painting to the F. Muller auction in Amsterdam on 15 December 1942. Galerie Paffrath from Düsseldorf purchased the painting at this auction.
